Ever wonder how license plates came to be?

When they started circulating and where it all began?

Did you know that the first license plate was created in the United States?

A Brief History of the License Plate!

Would you believe it if I told you that the license plate has been around for 117 years?

It is true! The very first license plate was created in 1901 in the State of New York.

That is right, the New York State was the first State to begin registering vehicles. But it did not catch on as quickly as one would think.

It took 17 years before all States were required to have license plates, making 1918 the year when all U.S. vehicles needed to be registered with a license plate.

Now, obtaining a drivers license took longer for the U.S. to implement.

By 1935, only 39 States issued them and few required a test even though there were great concerns about incompetent drivers.

Good thing those laws changed, am I right? LOL

Even though the license plate took a while to rotate throughout the United States, it sure is neat that not only were they created here, but that they are still required even after all these years.
